How it works

The leader is the account owner and is known as the moderator. The leader signs up for PowerConference, either when s/he signs up for service initially or anytime after service has been established. The moderator is assigned a toll-free number and a Moderator PIN. The Moderator PIN should be kept confidential! S/He is also told a Participant PIN.

The Moderator informs each of the participants of the time of the conference call and provides each participant the toll free number and the Participant PIN.

At the agreed upon time each participant dials the toll free number s/he was given as well as the Participant PIN. The Moderator also dials the same toll free number and enters his/her Moderator PIN. At that point, everyone is connected and the conference can begin.

How much does Protel charge for PowerConference?

Our rate is a low 12¢/minute per party. Billing is in one-minute increments. If 14 participants and 1 moderator are connected for 21 minutes, the charge for the call would be 15 participants × 21 min. × $0.12 = $37.80. By comparison, SBC charges 33¢/minute; Sprint, 34¢ to 39¢/minute; MCI, 47¢/minute up to a whopping 71¢/minute by AT&T.
